We have partnered with Josh Hartl, Head of Industrial Design, to hire our Human Factors Engineering Lead to support the growth and expansion of Key Tech’s clients and services. This position will serve as the Human Factors expert, while contributing to the ongoing and legacy product development capabilities of Key Tech’s team. 


  • Become the lead for Human Factors activities, including conducting VOC and user research, defining user needs and requirements, and performing usability studies
  • Inform the product development process through human factors study, user research, contextual inquiry, ethnographic research.
  • Enhance Key Tech’s Usability Engineering expertise by designing and running usability testing protocols.
  • Serve as a core member of Key Tech’s Industrial Design team, designing varying aspects of a product including form, user experience, and visual aspects of UIs.
  • Manage projects, serving as main client point of contact, for programs that have a focus on Human Factors activities
  • Become the human factors expert within Key Tech, the go-to resource for the subject, and the person to expand Key Tech’s ability to support full scope development of medical devices.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to generate new marketing material and interface with potential clients to promote Key Tech’s HF capabilities
  • Lead Key Tech’s portfolio growth into HF programs by helping to identify opportunities for Key Tech design processes to benefit clients
  • Audit and grow Key Tech’s existing HF processes, and identify other opportunities to expand related capabilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design
  • 2-5 years of experience with product design and/or research
  • Excited about tackling complex usability challenges involving hardware, UI, and ecosystems.
  • Passion for improving the usability of products and advocating for the end user
  • Desire to conduct user research and usability testing
  • Strong product design skills, including concept sketching and form development.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with designing medical products (preferred)
  • SolidWorks experience (preferred)
  • Must be living in, or willing to relocate to, Baltimore, MD.
